manuscript assessment

At story nook studio, manuscript assessments are designed to help you understand the strengths of your story, the areas that need development, and the next steps to take in revision.

Stories are personal work. Sending your manuscript to someone for feedback can feel vulnerable. Our goal is to provide thoughtful, respectful feedback that helps your story reach its full potential.

Every manuscript is approached with curiosity, care, and a deep respect for the creative process.

what is a manuscript assessment?

A manuscript assessment (sometimes called a developmental critique) focuses on the overall structure and storytelling elements of your book rather than line-by-line editing. Your manuscript will be read carefully and evaluated for key storytelling elements such as:

  • Story structure and narrative flow
  • Character development
  • Plot clarity and momentum
  • Pacing and tension
  • Worldbuilding or setting
  • Voice and tone
  • The overall reader experience

You’ll receive clear, thoughtful, and actionable feedback designed to strengthen the foundation of your story before moving into deeper editing stages.

Who is this service for?

Manuscript assessments are ideal for writers who:

  • Have completed a full draft or partial manuscript
  • Want professional guidance before revising
  • Feel stuck and need clarity on what to improve
  • Want to understand how readers may experience their story

This service is particularly valuable for first-time authors, but experienced writers often use manuscript assessments as a strategic step in their revision process as well.
